Children’s Dental Care

Infants, children and adolescence are very special people at our practice! Their teeth and jaw development are essential to nutrition, growth and development, speech, self-confidence and self-esteem, sleep, cognitive behaviour and learning – in fact, their general wellbeing. Dr DeLillo, Patricia our oral health therapist and the team, are committed to children’s oral health management and education. We invest a lot of time in educating families on the importance of all of the above. Over the last 24 years, we have a long history of oral health campaigns in our local pre-schools and community. Here at Cabarita Dental, we excel in non-traumatic dental treatment for children and adolescents saving you the need for a general anaesthetic, when treatment is performed in a timely manner.

Our services for children include:

  • early dental checks
  • oral hygiene education
  • diet and nutritional advice
  • advice to parents on management of poor oral habits
  • early orthodontic and jaw development assessment and treatment
  • sleep disordered breathing assessment

When should I make my child’s first appointment?

At our practice we love seeing children at infancy when we assess for tongue tie, suckling and airway obstructions.

We then follow up your child as they ‘cut their first teeth’ and advise you on teething, diet and oral hygiene. Parents love to know what mores to come so we keep them updated and informed on what’s involved in their child’s dental development and journey. Advice is given on prevention of dental caries, poor oral habits and avoiding trauma as your child grows.

Your child’s 6 monthly dental visits enable you to be well informed and your child to grow confidence in their dental experience.

Get them comfortable at the dentist!

It is vital that children get used to coming in to see the dentist while they are young. This will help them form good associations and avoid any fear of dentists.

While children are growing, we monitor their facial growth and dental development closely. This will help avoid crowding of teeth and jaw issues. We also assess and address factors such as large tonsils, sleep apnoea or snoring, mouth breathing and thumb sucking.

Bring your children to see us so that we can diagnose any problems early and your child can develop a happy, healthy, trusting relationship with Dr DeLillo and Patricia, our Oral Health Therapist

What about teenagers and their teeth?

Mouthguards

If your child plays a contact sport, a fitted, customised mouthguard from your dentist offers the best protection and often saves your child from traumatic loss of teeth and expensive dental solutions in the future. Chat to us about the colours and styles available.

Sugary sports drinks

Energy and sports drinks contain high levels of acid and sugar. These can start destroying teeth after only a few days of consistent use. Damaged enamel can cause sensitivity and susceptibility to decay and cavities.
